Protect Your Skin This Summer: Tips from Carilion Clinic

By Brooks Michael: Adolescent Health Educator, Carilion Clinic Children's Hospital July 7, 2015
Roughly 63% of teens believe they look better with a tan and only 3 out of 10 who lie in the sun say they always use sunscreen.  Science has proven that sun protection keeps your skin looking youthful and helps prevent age spots and wrinkles.  Getting in a good habit of wearing sunscreen at a young age will preserve youthful skin for years to come!

Sunscreens with SPF 15-50 are best.  Reapply often and pick sunscreen based on your own skin.  For example, if you have oily skin or acne, try an oil-free sunscreen.  Also, just because you may not be sitting by the pool, protect your skin.  The sun still shines while playing sports, walking, or washing the car!  And if you are still not convinced, ask an adult.  Most will tell you they wish they wore more sunscreen when they were younger!
