Tips for Cleaning Out the Clutter & Turning It Into CASH

LFA Kids Consignment Event This October

August 25, 2015
LFA KIDS CONSIGNMENT EVENT, Roanoke’s BEST and LARGEST consignment event is just around the corner.

If you have never been or never thought of selling your items, I am here to say it’s so easy! Under the same ownership since 2006, LFA KIDS has grown to accommodate nearly 600 consignors and 4,000 shoppers in their new SUPER-SIZED home, the fabulous Berglund Center.

Based on feedback from the owner, the average consignor earns $150.00 per event. Of course, that’s an average based on several things like the number of items a consignor sells, the brand of the items, and the condition of the item.

LFA KIDS pays out more to their consignors, 60% of the sold price, for each item that is sold during the event.(Some consignors make 40% and use the convenient Full-Service option, taken by appointment only with limited space available.)

Let’s get started because now is the time to sift through your gently used children’s items, maternity items, infant care, household items, and ladies clothing. The website is full of helpful tips, instructions and offers even a step-by-step video.

Here are the top tips to cleaning out and preparing for LFA KIDS CONSIGNMENT.

1. The organizers hold an event two times a year. One in March for Spring and Summer items, and another one in October for Fall and Winter items. Keep the seasons in mind when sorting through your things.

2. Make yourself 3 piles. One pile to sell, one pile to donate, and one pile to store for the next event. To maintain a quality shopping experience for all our shoppers, including fellow consignors, LFA does not accept items that have stains, broken zippers, missing buttons, or odor. (musty or smoke). For this purpose, items will be inspected at check-in.

3. Note: items that are stored in bins for a few months will have stains reappear. If it’s an item that you wish to sell, wash it to remove the stain prior to preparing it for the event.

4. The event also takes FASHIONISTA clothing. This can be more difficult to sort as all of us have different tastes. They are accepting trendy, modern ladies apparel, suitable for young ladies and hip moms. They do not accept “mom jeans”, dated shirts, chino style pants, ugly Christmas sweaters, Faded Glory brand. They do want Ann Taylor, Forever 21, Aeropastale and other teen specific brands, Michael Kors, Marshall’s and TJ Maxx brands, etc. My advice, when in doubt…donate!

5. After getting through the storage totes, consider other items. Do you have any bikes still in good condition? Have you recently changed your décor and have current artwork that you no longer need? Do you have any gently used kid/teen room décor items? Nice lamps?, etc. Go ahead and donate the old flower vases, baskets, random luggage, knick knacks, dated dishes, mismatched curtains, and “vintage” bedding.

6. Now that you have it all gathered, it’s time to register and get your items ready for the event. Follow the simple instructions on the website and DON’T be intimidated with pricing. It’s simple, ask yourself “What would I pay for this?” Chances are, someone else would pay the same. But if you still want something to follow, they do provide a very handy pricing guide on the website.

7. Make the most of your efforts and supplies….prepare your best things. Don’t prepare things that are “iffy”. Remember…when in doubt, donate.

8. After you have prepared your items, sort your clothing items by gender and size. I suggest rubber banding like sized to group them together and to prevent them from sliding around the back of the car. Doing this beforehand will make dropping off your items much faster!

One last thing to know, as a consignor, you receive a ticket to the EXCLUSIVE consignor presale for CONSIGNORS AND ONE GUEST ONLY. They do not allow people to purchase tickets as this night is reserved for consignors only. And if you want to shop even earlier than that, check out the wonderful volunteer opportunities. Anyone can volunteer and they have a lot of fun!

Hop on to their website www.LFAKIDS.com and follow them on Facebook to get all of the updates and notifications.

Hope to see you at the Berglund Center Oct 16th-18th this year!
