When you were about 4 weeks old I had to leave you with a close friend for a few hours so I could go into work to talk to my principal (I was a teacher at the time) about my maternity leave and returning to the classroom. As I was driving home I remember feeling a weird sort of chest pain. At first I didn't realize what it was, and then it slowly dawned on me that it was because I missed you. I missed you so much it physically hurt. I missed you so much my heart was aching. Until that moment I had no idea that this sort of love even existed. A love that made me hurt not to be with you. A love so strong, so powerful and so pure.
This same love would fill my nights with worry and doubts. Was I doing it right? Was I good enough? And somehow this same love also gave me the strength to get out of bed at 2am because you were hungry, and this love gave me what I needed to get through your colicky days when you wouldn't let me put you down, not even for a minute.
This love makes me a mom. But not just any mom. YOUR mom. And being your mom is what I am most thankful for in this world.
Thank you for showing me this love, helping me a better person and most importantly thank you for making me a mom.
