Attention Issues Can Make Back to School a Stressful Time

Connections Achievement & Therapy Center Can Help

By now, your children are back in school and fully integrated into the “school routine.” (Of course, sometimes that’s harder for the parents than for the kiddos!)  But for some families, back to school brings the realization of new concerns in a child. Today, 20% of children - that’s 1 in 5 - are diagnosed with an attention-related developmental problem. And while medication (usually stimulants) is the gold-standard treatment, many families don’t want to use this option to change their child's behavior, and others have already tried medication without success.

At Connections Achievement & Therapy Center, we understand that attention problems can have multiple causes. Maybe a child has a sensory processing issue that is constantly pulling her attention away from what is important. Maybe a child can pay attention just fine, but he can’t tune out light, sound or movement that happens in the periphery. Or maybe, a child simply does not have the ability to pay attention! In a non-drug therapy program like ours, these differences are very important to tease out and can make all the difference in seeing improvement.
