Throw an Oscars Party for the Kids!
The Oscars, airing on Feb 26th, is Hollywood's biggest night! I love the red carpet and watching all the movie stars, but I must admit it's not something my kids generally want to watch with me. Until this year because I have some great ideas for you to plan an Oscar party with your kids!
For starters any good party needs some decorations. You can create a red carpet in your living room with towels, a yoga mat, even a red table cloth can be folded and made to work! And, cut out stars from construction paper to hang around the room.
Food is also always important and popcorn is the perfect and easiest choice! Or use a star-shaped cookie cutter to make pb&j or other sandwiches. For drinks, get some plastic champagne flutes and fill with sparkling cider to make the kids feel like grown-ups!
Another really fun idea is to have everyone dress-up for photos on the red carpet! Get out old costumes, jewelry, jackets, vests, ties, high heels, etc, and let the kids have at it. Then let them walk the "red carpet" and be sure to have some paparazzi on hand to take lots and lots of pictures!
Honestly, most kids probably aren't too concerned with who is going to win best actress or best picture, but they might be interested in Best Animated Feature Film. And,you can definitely create your own categories and have your own awards. Here are a few suggestions: best red carpet pose, best dance moves, best joke teller, or silliest laugh. You can hand out chocolates as awards or even find some inexpensive statues similar to real Oscars at a dollar store!
A fun game idea is to play "guess the celebrity". The age of your kids will determine which celebrities to use, of course. My kids (ages 6 and 4) could get this one: I am bright red, have 4 wheels, my girlfriend is Sally, and my best friend is Mater...Who am I?...Lightning McQueen!
I even found an Oscars Word Search online! http://partysupplieshut.com/oscar/oscar-word-find.htm
Even though you may not think the Oscars as kid-friendly, you can totally make it that way! Have fun with it!
Have your say
