Supporting Sandy Hook Elementary of Newtown

By By Lisa Agresta, Editor, Macaroni Kid Newtown-Monroe-Trumbull-Easton- Shelton-Ansonia-Derby December 18, 2012
It is with a heavy heart I ask the help of our wonderful Macaroni Kid community to support the families, and especially the children of Sandy Hook Elementary School. I am Lisa Agresta, Publisher of Macaroni Kid Newtown, CT, and a mother of three young children here in Newtown. The senseless tragedy of Friday, December 14, 2012, for which no words or rational thought can ever explain, has devastated our community with great sadness. As we move forward, the sadness is being comforted by unbelievable love and kindness from within the community and beyond – from all corners of the world. Through this support, I am hopeful Newtown will heal from the hurt it shares with the world
today. As you find yourself holding your children closer, please embrace them a little longer for the lost tomorrows of all the beautiful angels and heroes of Sandy Hook Elementary and their families.

As the horrific enormity of that day unfolded, we all felt compelled to reach out and help, or somehow fix and make it all right again. Many continue to show their support through unselfish offerings and expressions of love, most evident by the heart moving memorials created and visited by countless visitors each day and night here in Newtown. Others have established donation support funds to help with immediate and long term needs of our Sandy Hook families and community members.

Two of those include the Sandy Hook School Support Fund through the
United Way and the Connecticut PTSA Sandy Hook Fund, sponsored
by the Newtown Parent Teacher Association. I have talked personally to representatives of both these funds and have confirmed their genuine commitment that all monies donated will go directly to the community. All donations large or small will go a long way in rebuilding our community, thank
you. If you choose to donate elsewhere, please be very cautious to ensure their authenticity.
Thank you for the outpouring of love and support.

The Newtown Parent Teacher Association (PTA), with the help of CT PTSA, has established the “Connecticut PTSA Sandy Hook Fund.” With strong connections to the community and school environment, The Newtown PTA will ensure that all raised contributions will be directed to where they can do the most good to support the ongoing needs of the Sandy Hook Community.

decisions on how to best use the funds. The fund is endorsed by the Governor, as well as the Town of Newtown and Newtown School Board.
