Certified technicians help parents correctly use and install car seats and booster seats on final day of Child Passenger Safety Week
Roanoke, VA – Safe Kids Southwest Virginia urges parents and caregivers to make sure their car seats and booster seats are properly installed on “National Seat Check Saturday,” on Sept. 21.
Roanoke will have certified child passenger safety technicians available to provide hands-on instruction on installing car seats and booster seats at the Roanoke Target located on Valley View Blvd., from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

“Correctly used child safety seats can reduce the risk of death by as much as 71 percent,” said Jill Lucas, Safe Kids coordinator. “We want all parents to make sure their car seats are used and installed correctly and that the whole family is buckled up every time, on every ride. And we’re here to help.”
In a nationwide effort to educate parents and caregivers during Child Passenger Safety Week, Safe Kids and the General Motors Foundation are teaming up for Seat Check Saturday activities as part of the Buckle Up program, a national initiative established 16 years ago by Safe Kids and the GM Foundation to keep children and families safe in and around cars.
Safe Kids will host more than 500 child seat inspections across the country for CPS week, including an additional seat check in Roanoke on Thursday, Sept. 19 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Roanoke City Fire Station #6, located at 1333 Jamison Ave SE.
Car seat inspections offer drivers the chance to receive assistance and guidance from certified car seat technicians regarding proper installation of their child safety and booster seats. Safe Kids Buckle Up events continue throughout the year.
Parent can also check their own car and booster seats by using this car seat check list. Certified child passenger safety technicians are available to help or double check your work. Parents and caregivers can locate an event in their community by visiting the Safe Kids website at safekids.org.
