Do Something Great Day Event and Poster Contest

September 16, 2014
Do Something Great Day is our chance to do something great and important in our community. We are focusing our DSGD here in Roanoke on Anti-Bullying Awareness. I chose this as our focus because I think it’s a topic that still needs to be addressed with kids of all ages. Our hope is that kids and families will feel empowered and ready to stand up to bullying so we can once and for all put an end to it. Hopefully in the future we won’t need anti-bullying awareness events because it will be a thing of the past. But, in the meantime Do Something Great Day is our way to use our voice to be heard.

Bullying is when you choose to hate and we want kids to knock out bullying and choose kindness. A simple act of kindness is really all it takes to make a powerful impact on others. At our event we are going to encourage kids to sign an anti-bullying pledge and strive to do simple acts of kindness every single day.

While details are still in the works here is a little of what you can expect:
  • Guest Speaker on Anti-Bullying
  • Free Anti-Bullying/Assertiveness training class for kids
  • Anti-Bullying activities for kids
  • Anti-Bullying book corner with Roanoke City Libraries
  • Mill Mountain Zoo with some fun animals
  • Photo booth with our friends from Fairytales & Pixie Dust Photography
  • Vendors and information booths
