High Energy Fun for Kids ~ SOCCER SHOTS

Spring Session Starts March 30th

By Landon Moore, Head Coach and Executive Director March 24, 2015
Soccer Shots is a top-ranked children's program that offers high energy, fun, and age-appropriate lessons using the wonderful game of soccer. In addition to soccer, students work on improving gross motor skills and learn important character words such as teamwork and respect. Soccer Shots instructors are professionally licensed with the United States Soccer Federation and bring enthusiasm and passion to their work with children. The company’s goal is simple: to leave a lasting, positive impact on every child we serve!

Executive Director and Head Coach, Landon Moore, started the business last summer with the first season taking place in the fall. Since then, the program has served close to 500 kids in schools, childcare centers, and park locations. Those children ranged in age from 2 to 11, with the majority between 2 and 5.

The programs that Soccer Shots uses have been developed by soccer professionals with experience coaching children in this age range over the past 15 years and with input from top child development experts in the country. The programs are separated into three levels so that they are age and developmentally appropriate, and each program includes four distinct seasons so that the child can participate year round without losing interest.

A typical Soccer Shots lesson begins with the coach connecting with each individual child before reviewing the three rules. A character word is woven throughout the lesson. The warm up focuses on developing motor skills, and after reviewing skills from previous weeks, the coach introduces a new skill. Then, the children play two games where that skill can be used – examples of some of the kids’ favorites are “The Bees and the Bear” and “Cannonball Catch.” After the games, the children attempt to score a goal with a specific challenge to
complete. We always end with prize time and a big cheer.

At $10 per week for an eight or nine-week season, the price point hopefully allows children to participate for multiple seasons throughout the year. Soccer Shots is very flexible with payment plans and makes a priority to do one new outreach program per season. The first two seasons included the West End Center and Blue Ridge Autism and Achievement Center.

The spring season starts on March 30. To learn more, find Soccer Shots Southwest Virginia on the web at soccershots.org/swvirginia or look for us on Facebook.
