Fundamentals of Mountain Biking Summer Camp
MONDAY-FRIDAY| 8:00 A.M. TO 5:00 P.M.
(Ages 8 -10) We’ve partnered with Star City Cycling to create a fast-paced, adventure-filled week designed for campers who love exploring the outdoors on their bike. Roanoke is known as the mountain biking capital of the East, with more than 400 miles of rideable trails, making it the perfect place to introduce young riders to the incredible terrain our region has to offer. Mountain biking is an exciting way to experience nature and allows us to travel farther and faster than we can on foot.
For safety reasons, participants should already feel comfortable riding on paved surfaces before signing up. This means campers should be able to balance confidently, maintain steady momentum, know how to brake properly and ride without frequent stops.
This camp is designed for riders who want to learn the basic fundamentals of mountain biking. Throughout the week, campers will develop beginner and early intermediate skills such as cornering on tighter trails, shifting at the right moments, climbing and descending hills, navigating obstacles, practicing trail etiquette, performing basic bike maintenance, and understanding general ride safety.
Each day begins with warm-ups followed by an extended trail ride to different locations around the region. Daily schedules will include roughly half a day of mountain biking and half a day of traditional outdoor camp activities such as kayaking, swimming, environmental education, and more.
Date: June 8-June 12
Time 8am – 5pm
Price $365
