Camp Treehouse, hosted by Carilion Clinic’s Center for Grief and Healing, is a free, overnight family experience designed to provide a safe, supportive space for children and teens (grades K – 8) where they can learn about grief's impact on one another and the family unit.
At Camp Treehouse, children connect with peers who understand their grief, learn healthy ways to express their emotions, and discover coping strategies through creative and recreational activities. The camp experience includes:
- Connection: Meeting other children who have also experienced the loss of a loved one
- Understanding: Normalizing feelings and learning ways to cherish memories
- Expression: Engaging in healing activities such as art, dance and music. Enjoy traditional camp activities such as a ropes course, drumming and campfire.
Parents/guardians must attend and participate in an art activity and discussions geared toward self-care and supporting children in grief.
Join us Friday, May 1, 4 p.m., to Saturday, May 2, 5 p.m., in Thaxton, VA (location confirmed upon required registration). Meals are provided. Indoor and outdoor lodging will be offered. For outdoor lodging, bring your own tent. Dress for outdoor adventure.
Priority is given to first-time campers. To register, call 540-527-4858 or visit CarilionClinic.org/camp-treehouse to learn more.
