Our KOA Pigeon Forge RVing Adventure

August 4, 2015
My family and I recently went on an RV adventure courtesy of GoRVing. Our kids were dying to get back to Dollywood this summer so we decided Pigeon Forge, TN would be the perfect RV destination for us. The folks at GoRVing recommended keeping our destination within a few hours drive so Pigeon Forge was perfect.

Now, where exactly to stay? We knew we wouldn't have our car so location was super important. We for sure like to explore and do things when we vacation, but the idea was to park the RV and not need it for transportation once we arrived. After researching several area RV campgrounds, we settled on the KOA Pigeon Forge. It was in a great location and a short walk to restaurants, shopping, and the Fun Time Trolley that could shuttle us to Dollywood and Gaitlinburg for a very minimal fee. Perfect!

If you've never been to a KOA, you should know they offer more than just RV sites, they rent cabins and offer tent camping, as well. They are extremely family friendly, pet friendly, and someone from their staff will even provide you a personal escort to your site. {Probably a wise idea so you don't get lost!} I also love that upon arrival you get an activities guide for each day of the week. Things like day camps, tye-die t-shirts, campfire s'mores, movie nights, and flashlight candy hunts are just a few of the things you can expect for the kids. We also love that KOA Pigeon Forge has a swimming pool {a must for our kids}, and their famous jumping pillow. And, they have a great camp store so we could pick up a few extras we had forgotten {yikes soap!} and the all important marshmellow roasting sticks!

I'm not much of a tent camper so RV camping was absolutely perfect for me. Our site was full hookup, meaning we had electricity, water, and sewer. The KOA Pigeon Forge has several bath house locations but our RV was equipped with a bathroom and shower so we didn't need it. We definitely saved a lot of money since we didn't have to eat out and could use the KOA campsite's grill for cooking dinner. {I love having everything we need right there in the RV.} And, of course making campfire s'mores in the evening is a must!

RVing is actually very affordable when you start to break down the cost of hotels and food when traveling, and we were just as comfortable as we would have been in a hotel. Which, coming from me, a non-camper, says alot!

One other nice surprise at our campsite was that we had a great view of the fireworks at Dollywood each night. So, if you happen to stay at KOA Pigeon Forge ever, be sure to request a site for viewing those nightly fireworks in the summer!

My family was provided a 3-night stay at KOA Pigeon Forge. And, GoRVing provided the use of the RV for this trip. No other compensation was received and all opinions express are my own.
