Can you help Macaroni Kid Roanoke #SaveSummer?

Get a cool shirt, help a local business and send a kid to Summer Camp!

By Beth Bell, Publisher April 1, 2020

Macaroni Kid Roanoke is blessed to be able to say we've been serving our community as the ultimate resource for family fun in Roanoke, Virginia for 10 years!  One of our favorite things about what we do is being able to introduce our readers to local businesses that offer products and services to enrich their lives.  We can always count on our community partners when we are in a pinch. They've donated birthday club gifts, weeks of summer camp and hundreds of giveaways for all of you over the years.  When we have a crazy event idea, they open up their venue to us, make cardboard creations for an upcycled play zone and they bring their theatre costumes for dress up photo booths. We've shared laughs, ideas, hugs, and now...some some fears and  tears. We've been trying to think of ways we can give back to our community partners and are launching our first #MacKidSavesSummer fundraiser!  Please keep reading on how you can support our partners and potentially win a week of summer camp!

How does it work?

We've partnered with Big Lick Screen Printing's #HereforGoodSWVA campaign to create a t-shirt fundraiser. T-shirts are only $20 and half of that will go directly to sending a kid to summer camp at one of our partner camps.  T-shirts are available in Unisex Adult and Youth sizes. (although women's cut is shown, that is not available for this project).  Big Lick Screen Printing is known for their super soft, "become your favorite t-shirt" unisex shirts.  We will sells shirts the entire month of April.  Order yours here: Big Lick Screen Printing's #HereforGoodSWVA #MacKidSavesSummer

If you'd like to make a cash donation to this fundraiser, or sponsor a week of summer camp, please email bethbell@macaronikid.com. All money earned from T-shirt sales and cash donated will be used to purchase weeks of summer camps or gift certificates at a camp in our summer camp guide.

How do I enter my kids to win?

We've partnered with Roanoke's Favorite Artist- Katherine Devine to create a fun coloring sheet. Your child will color the photo and fill in the information about why they love summer and which summer camp they'd love to attend.  It's okay if you want or need to help them.

After your child has finished the form, please take a photo or scan it and send it to bethbell@macaronikid.com. All photos will be shared on social media by Macaroni Kid Roanoke and Macaroni Kid NRV.

To receive an extra drawing in the giveaway, please share on your social media, using the #MacKidSavesSummer and tag @mackidroanoke - make sure it's a public post so we'll see.

On May 5th, we'll start drawing winners, based on the amount of money earned and number of free weeks of camp available.

Click here for a printable version of the coloring sheet.

What if summer camps are canceled?

The money will still go towards a gift certificate that can be used for any programming or product sales at the camp. Most camps have operations year round with performances, admission tickets, gift and camp stores, and special events.

How do I get my summer camp or program added to the Summer Camp Guide and this fundraiser?

Email bethbell@macaronikid.com for details.

In addition to this fundraiser, we'll be hosting each camp on our facebook page so you can learn more about the camps and the people behind them. Please follow along for updates. We'll have the schedule up this week.
