Two Roanoke-area teachers, Laura Gamble and Annie Robertson, are making that possible with the launch of their brand-new podcast, Frenzy in First. Both women have more than a decade of classroom experience, and their love for teaching, storytelling, and supporting families shines through in every episode.
What started as a funny suggestion tossed around during professional development meetings—after sharing one too many unbelievable classroom stories—has turned into a real and rewarding project. They’d often hear, “You should write a book!” Instead, they started recording.
The very first episode dropped on March 12th, and now, they’re off and running with a goal to release three new episodes each month. Each episode runs about 30 to 40 minutes, just the right length to keep you company on your commute, during chores, or over a cup of coffee.
But don’t let the laughter fool you—there’s a clear mission here. Frenzy in First was born not only from their experiences as teachers, but also from frequent requests they get from fellow parents who turn to them for advice. These moms and teachers know the questions families are asking, because they’re living it themselves.
The podcast aims to offer constructive advice and real-life solutions to challenges parents and educators face—everything from homework battles to building independence, from academic concerns to emotional meltdowns. Some episodes may take a more academic deep dive, while others are lighthearted and filled with stories that will have you laughing out loud. No matter the topic, the goal remains the same: to stay positive, be helpful, and build stronger bridges between school and home.
Even better? Frenzy in First is produced locally at the Grandin Co-Lab here in Roanoke, adding a truly homegrown feel. The chemistry between Laura and Annie is undeniable—not only are they colleagues and co-teachers, they’re real-life friends whose children are also close. What you hear in each episode is honest conversation between people who genuinely enjoy doing life (and teaching!) together.
As the podcast continues to grow, they hope to welcome guests—other educators, specialists, and parents—to bring fresh perspectives and new ideas.
