Roanoke Valley Children’s Choir to Perform at UK’s Historic Cathedrals

Thirty-Nine Local Students will Sing in International Youth Choir Festival

July 7, 2025

The Roanoke Valley Children’s Choir (RVCC) is thrilled to announce its participation in the International Youth Choir Festival, taking place in London, Canterbury, and Rochester from July 9–17. Thirty-nine talented high school singers from the RVCC Concert Choir have been diligently preparing 21 songs for this prestigious event.

The choir will perform in two of England’s most iconic and historic venues—Canterbury Cathedral and Rochester Cathedral—both celebrated as the oldest and largest cathedrals in the country, with origins dating back to 800–1200 AD.

As a special honor, the RVCC Concert Choir has been selected as the solo liturgical choir for the traditional Evensong Service at Rochester Cathedral. Choir director Kim Davidson shares:

“Our high school singers are mastering the medieval Gregorian chant style, embracing this unique challenge and forging a beautiful connection to this revered tradition, especially within these historic cathedrals.”

In addition to their performances, the choir will enjoy exclusive tours of Buckingham Palace and Leeds Castle, and experience a show in London’s West End. With 18 hours of rehearsals scheduled, the choristers are well-prepared to lead and proudly represent the United States, Virginia, and Roanoke.
