Recipe of the Week: Super Easy Flan

Celebrate Cinco de Mayo with this easy flan recipe!

By Sandra Kuczynski April 26, 2016
Flan is a custard dessert that tastes similar to crème brulee. This super easy flan is always a big hit! This would make a great dessert for a Cinco de Mayo fiesta!

You will need:
1 can of evaporated milk
1 can of sweetened condensed milk
1 cup of sugar
4 eggs
A deep pan with water – (see picture below)
A pie/cake pan for flan
A sauce pan to caramelize the sugar

Prepare flan for baking:
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

2. Pour one cup of sugar into saucepan and place on medium heat. Stir sugar constantly until it starts to appear lumpy, reduce heat (it is important to reduce heat to avoid the sugar burning) and keep stirring until sugar caramelizes and it is of a smooth consistency. This should take about 10 minutes.

3. Once sugar is caramelized, pour it into the pie or cake pan and roll the pan around so the sugar will coat the dish along the bottom and sides, then set aside.

5. Pour the mixture in the pie/cake dish and place the cake dish inside the deep pan of water.

6. Place the pans in the oven and bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour. The flan is done when a toothpick is placed in center and comes out clean.

7. Let the flan cool, then place a plate over the flan and turn it upside down. It should slide out onto the plate.
