Last Minute Family Road Trip Ideas for Labor Day Weekend

August 29, 2017

Often looked at as the last hurrah for the summer, Labor Day weekend is a great opportunity to escape with your family for a fun getaway. We've got 6 ideas to help you get out and explore!

  1. Stay and play the weekend away at Mountain Lake Lodge. For the mamas you can enjoy remembering Dirty Dancing and there is loads to do for the kiddos, too. We loved Treetop Adventures and highly recommend it!
  2. The Greenbrier has long been on our bucket list and Labor Day weekend is as good as any to check it out. They even a fun line up of events for the weekend.
  3. Another one our bucket list is the Omni Homestead Resort in Hot Springs, VA. They've got swimming, tennis, zip lining and a kids club!
  4. Feel like connecting with nature? A weekend at a Virginia State Park is the perfect way to do just that. Locally we've got Smith Mountain Lake, Claytor Lake, Natural Bridge and Douthat State Park all within a short drive.
  5. Another fun opportunity to get away from it all is to check in to a KOA Campground for the weekend. There are many options not too far from Roanoke. And the cool thing is you don't even have to tent camp at a KOA because they offer Deluxe Cabins (which I recommend) and Camping Cabins to stay in.
  6. A little further down the road, but well worth the drive is Asheville NC and the Biltmore. This is one of our favorite cities to explore and a weekend here is always fun.

Whatever and wherever you decide to enjoy your Labor Day weekend we hope it's a fun one!
