It's Time to Prepare for the LFA Kids Consignment Event

The fall event takes place Sept 22-25th 2022 at Berglund Center

August 19, 2021

The LFA Fall Sale is September 22nd-25th! It's not too late to prep your clothes and make some cash!

Have you ever considered joining the consignment craze and participating in a consignment event?

LFA KIDS CONSIGNMENT EVENT is celebrating it’s 21st year in Roanoke and has grown to become Southwest Virginia’s largest pop-up consignment event! With over 500 participating families and 3,000 shoppers, it’s a bargain mom’s dream come true!  As you prepare for Back to School, you're probably already purging clothes that your kids have outgrown, why not make some money on them?

So, what does LFA stand for?

The HMC (Head Mom in Charge) is Ellen Cleveland, mother of 2 girls, Emily and Sarah. Ellen took over the event 15 years ago from the original owner whose children were named Lauren and Alex, creating the original name of Lauren’s Friends & Alex. The name has been shortened to roll off the tongue a bit easier and is now simply, LFA Kids Consignment Event. And oh how this event has grown!

What happens when I consign?

When you consign with LFA Kids we promise you these two things:

  1. IT WILL BE WORTH IT - You will make money at this event!
  2. WE MAKE IT EASY- Don’t be intimidated!

Let's run through some tips to help you make the most money you can for your items!

Editor tip: LFA Kids Event consignors make up to 70% of the sale price and average $200 per event

Step-by-step guide on how to participate

1. Assess what you have.

  • Right now we are prepping for the Fall & Winter event so items for Spring and Summer will have to sit this round out. This is the best time to think about toys, Back to School clothes, Holiday items, Holiday wear, etc.
  • Sort your items into three piles, things to sell, things to donate and things to toss.
  • Remember to check for "high price" items like designer purses, modern home décor items, furniture or larger items and last year's clothes that you've already put away for the summer.

Editor Tip: Have you checked under the beds and in the garage?

2. Prep your items

Presentation matters so think about when you are shopping and what makes you pick up one item over another. The better your items look, they better they sell. Click here for some pointers.

  • Do the laundry. All clothing items should be washed and clean prior to consigning them
  • If an item takes batteries make sure they are new and the item is in working order (Dollar Tree is great!)
  • Check for rips/tears/stains/missing buttons and if an item has any it's probably not best for consigning
  • Clean the toys. Magic Erasers and cotton swabs for those little cracks and crevices are a consignor's best friend

Editor Tip: Save the original packaging for toys so you can reuse it when you are ready to sell the item

3. Price to Sell

While moms are always looking for a great deal we also understand the value of spending a little more on high-quality items. Price your items as reasonably as you can keep in mind it's original value and how much wear and tear it has. You can find a fantastic pricing guide here.

Tagging time! The first step is to gather all the materials you'll need:

  • hangers
  • safety pins
  • printing labels
  • card stock

LFA Kids has many resources on their site including this handy pricing guide.

When should you start the process?

NOW!

If you start now and do one step at a time, you'll be ready to drop off your items in September.  If you don't want to prep and price your own items, you can also take advantage of the Busy Mom Full Service, by the deadline of September 2nd.
