Meet Money Making Mama, Nicki Thompson, Executive Director and Certified Mentor with LimeLife by Alcone
Who or what inspired you to start your business?
I have been a part of a direct sales company in some shape or form for over 15 years. I had put this idea to the backburner for a few years as we were expanding our family. I had missed this aspect of my life so once I joined social media, I knew I had to get back into this business. Now with a different spin of social media, I am having more fun now than I ever have. I have daily inspirations from women I’ve met in the last two years so I don’t think there is any one person who inspired me.
What has having your own business meant to your family? (the good, the bad, the ugly)
There have definitely been some struggles, but that led to better communication and figuring out ways to adjust our routines. When I finally figured out how to run my business, I spent numerous hours on my phone. Most of this business can truly be run from your phone and on-the-go. Numerous hours on my phone meant time away from my family even though I was in the same room. I figured out a way to budget my time so that I could dedicate certain times to my business, and the rest to my family.
I also found a way to include my youngest daughter in this business. She loves the camera and is a ham for live videos. Once she started doing live videos with me, whether they revolved around my business or not, she was in it to win it. Now, my customers talk about how much they love her videos and look forward to the future ones.
My family now understands how much this business means to me and that allows me the freedom I need to be myself, help other women, and earn an extra income.
If you had to choose one strength that you possess that has helped you be the most successful- what would it be and why?
I have a very positive and outgoing personality. I can talk to anyone about anything, but I truly love lifting others up and trying to find the positive in every situation. This has helped me to be successful because people look to me for advice in all aspects of life.
What are you passionate about?
I absolutely love helping women feel better about themselves. It all starts with confidence on the inside. What women fail to believe, is that they truly have a natural beauty on the inside that carries to the outside. Skincare and professional cosmetics just enhance a woman’s beauty, which in turn leads to a more confident presence.
What piece of advice would you give yourself if you were just starting your business again today?
I would definitely start with a social media 101 class! I had a very unique situation in which I had just joined social media and tried to run a successful online business simultaneously. I didn’t know what I was doing, and I’m sure I lost a lot of friends in the beginning. I hadn’t talked to old friends in so many years so I only knew a few people that I could make friends with, and then ultimately shoved something in their face when they truly didn’t even know me. People want to know you first, not about your business.
In what ways can your business help another mom?
This is the perfect opportunity to network and meet other women just like us. I have met so many women, who are also Mom’s, which has led to friendships and customers.
As a Beauty Guide in general, we provide a lot of online training to get you started with your business. However, I provide extra help and collaboration to the ladies on my team. In addition, for the local ladies, I have the ability to meet in person to go over all of the products and help with the launch of their business. I am active in a team group chat on a daily basis to answer any questions or concerns as well. We also have a team page where we share information about products and anything generally business related.
What has been your favorite local resource to support you in your business?
Honestly, the customers that have turned into friends have supported me by providing honest reviews on the products they have purchased. A lot of these friends also have their own direct sales business so we collaborate with each other to promote each other’s businesses.
