Roanoke City Families- Apply for Fishburn Park STEAM Program

February 9, 2019

Fishburn Park Elementary is now accepting STEAM, Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics, applications for the 2019-2020 school year.

Fishburn Park Elementary’s Focus for STEAM, offers a unique program for K-5 students interested in science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics.  Instruction at Fishburn Park Elementary is delivered through the lens of each of these topics.

In 2012, the White House invited Fishburn Park Elementary to the nation’s capital to accept the honor and distinction of being named a Green Ribbon School, one of only a handful recognized throughout the country.  In 2017, the school’s focus migrated to STEAM to accommodate the ever-changing education realm, providing an umbrella to support hands-on learning related to Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics. Today, Fishburn Park Elementary enrolls approximately 320 students, around 30% of whom are accepted through the application process.  The core curriculum areas of Reading, Language, Math, Science, and Social Studies as prescribed by the Virginia Standards of Learning (SOL’s) are fully implemented at Fishburn Park Elementary.

It is the mission of Fishburn Park Elementary School to build a caring and creative community of lifelong learners and to provide an academically stimulating and challenging instructional STEAM program that establishes a strong foundation of academic success for all students.
