If you’re one of those kids born in September through November, you probably remember growing up envying all your other friends with summer birthdays. They always had the cool parties, right? You know, the ones at the pool or lake where everyone had a blast showing off their summer tans while they sipped on cool-aid on their pool floats. How could your birthday party ever compete with that right? WRONG! You might not be able to have a pool party, but you have pumpkin patches, camp outs & a smore’s bar and who doesn’t love a good messy ooey gooey marshmallow smore? There is tons of fun to be had at fall birthday parties and I’m going to show you just how to do it.

A smore’s bar is super easy to create. You can use a simple folding table or even a picnic table if you have one. Cover it with a plastic tablecloth because after all smore’s are messy fun. Plus, when the parties over you can ball it up and throw it away. Your smore’s bar should include at a minimum, marshmallows, graham crackers, and Hershey chocolate bars. If you really want to get creative, you can add some Reese’s peanut butter cups or even a Godiva caramel chocolate bar. You can find skewer sticks for your marshmallow roasting at your local box store or camping store. I’ve provided a direct link for you here

Next, you’ll need a cool campfire setup. I ran across this one on Pinterest. You can purchase some hay bales or use picnic table benches like in the picture below. On a tight budget? No problem. Everyday lawn chairs work just fine. Trust me, your guests aren’t there for the chairs. Arrange your seating around your fire pit, light that fire up, grab you a stick, and get to roasting! If you’re throwing a kid’s birthday party, you may want to consider adding in a few games. A pumpkin decorating contest is always a big hit with school age children. For the pumpkin decorating you’ll need one pumpkin for each kid and some acrylic kid paint. Crayola sells a set of basic color paints for kids that are non-toxic! You can find them here.  Don’t forget the brushes! I found this pack on Amazon for $2.96 plus if you’re a prime member you get free shipping. Whoop Whoop! I suggest setting up your pumpkin painting on a separate table than your food to prevent cross contamination.

Another fun game you can play is Poke a Pumpkin. This can be made by wrapping orange tissue paper around the top opening of orange colored plastic or paper cups. Secure the tissue paper with rubber bands. Place a fun prize inside each cup. It can be anything from candy to small toys. I suggest hiding a grand prize inside one of them to build the excitement. Glue the bottom of each cup to a black foam board in a shape of a pumpkin. Using green cardstock or construction paper cut out a leaf and glue it on top of the pumpkin cups. Prop the game up against a stable surface such as a tree or chair. Allow each kid at least one chance at poking a pumpkin for the grand prize.

If you’re looking for a way to capture all those fun fall birthday memories, you can create a cute photo booth. Here’s what you’ll need: at least two hay bales, two or three medium sized pumpkins, at least one large mum, and if you can get them some dried out corn stalks. You should be able to pick most of these items up at your local tractor supply store. For your backdrop you can use a tree like the one in the picture below, a fence, or even a tall pallet board.
