What are you passionate about?
I am passionate about helping others. Whether it be via my nursing degree or local children in our community. I also help with Matthew’s Child which is a non profit in our community that provides resources for displaced children and their families in our area.
What has having your own business meant to your family? (the good, the bad, the ugly)
I am a Registered Nurse and resigned from my full-time job after my husband and I decided to foster local children through our local Department of Social Services. We have 2 biological children and have welcomed 10 more children into our home over the past 3 years. We currently have 7 children total ranging in ages of infant to 17. We are currently in the process of adopting a sibling set of 3 with hopes that our adoption is finalized by early 2020! I decided to start my own business because I needed to focus more on our children’s needs. A few of them have special needs and I needed to be there for all of their appointments. After a few months I decided to venture into children’s clothing because I was always getting asked where I got all of the cute clothing for my kiddos. I started out using a small room in our home and it has expanded to it’s own building because it has grown so much!
If you had to choose one strength that you possess that has helped you be the most successful- what would it be and why?
Friendliness/Personality. I honestly pride myself in my customer service and people skills. I go above and beyond to get to know a lot of my customers. A lot of my first customers are now close acquaintances of mine and are super enthusiastic about Sparkling Unicorn Children's Boutique. My customers know they can reach out to me for anything and I will do my best to make sure it happens, or I point them in the right direction even if I can’t provide it for them!
What piece of advice would you give yourself if you were just starting your business again today?
You CAN do this! Don’t doubt yourself so much. My husband had to convince me over the span of MONTHS to even get started and I am so glad I finally listened to him!
Who or what inspired you to start your business?
My husband and children inspired me. They are always 100% in my corner and are my #1 cheerleaders. They convinced me from day 1 that I could do it and should…they were right!
