GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Provide leadership and oversight to assigned Afterschool Enrichment youth development program sites.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

The Childcare Administrator should be enthusiastic, motivated to create high quality programs, and be committed to the YMCA mission. A two-year degree in a related field is required and at least two years’ experience in youth development leadership is required.  Strong relationship-building, leadership, communication, organization, and interpersonal skills are necessary. The ability to plan, develop, organize, manage, prioritize and administer tasks is essential. Previous academic enrichment experience, drafting and budgeting, working with DSS licensing, computer proficiency, and administrative skills are required.

-      Must be qualified to work as a Site Director according to Virginia DSS guidelines.

-      Must complete Virginia Preservice Training for Child Care Staff online prior to working first shift with children.

-      Must complete CPR & First Aid certification within first 30 days of employment.

 

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Work in collaboration with other Child Care Directors in the establishment of quality Y After School Programs.
  2. Interpret, communicate, and promote Y mission, goals, and objectives to department employees, volunteer leaders, members, and the community.
  3. Support branch/department initiatives related to membership retention.
  4. Build relationships with school and division administrators, nurturing their trust in Y After School and encouraging advocacy of the program within the school and community.

5.    Promote, foster and support the Y’s commitment to access, inclusion and engagement for all by engaging diverse populations in a welcoming environment.

  1. Actively manage schedule to ensure department coverage, while adhering to forty-hour work week if required (unless overtime hours are previously approved by supervisor).
  2. Lead sites in implementation of Y After School programming.
  3. Ensure licensing compliance for assigned sites, and maintain system of records to meet requirements.

9.    Oversee registration and enrollment of program participants, ensuring proper payments and the communication of past due accounts to families.

10. Oversee establishment and enforcement of emergency procedures in conformity with procedures adopted by emergency service authorities, including CPR/Aid, Emergency Response, OSHA and facility safety standards. Communicate plan to all on-site management and program participants.

11. Supervise Site Directors and other support staff, including hiring, training, scheduling, monitoring, evaluating, providing feedback, leading meetings, and ensuring that required certifications are maintained.

12. Maintains and approves Y After School staff payroll.

13. Visit sites regularly to assess quality, record and report on progress.

  1. Provide guidance to staff, disseminating best practices and providing ongoing training, coaching and mentoring.
  2. Fill-in for on-site staff as needed.

16. Build rapport with program participants, families and staff to enhance programs and services. Facilitate and maintain positive communication with all stakeholders.

17. Develop and foster relationships with school district administration for current school sites and potential new sites.

  1. Develop and manage budget, including timely and accurate forecasting and analysis.
  2. Supervise the proper maintenance of program files and records.

20. Actively lead marketing and promotion efforts for assigned programs.

21. Cultivate volunteers and strategically use them within Y After School.

  1. Attend and support programs, events, meetings and trainings as needed.

 

Fulfill all other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Ability to see and hear children during program activities; must be able to recognize and respond to unsafe situations. Ability to use a computer, telephone and related business equipment as necessary for this position. Must be able to remain standing for long periods of time and communicate effectively with others. Must be able to bend, stoop, lift up to 25 pounds, move and carry equipment related to programs.
