Play Roanoke is celebrating National Kids to Parks Day with a scavenger hunt like no other! This hunt can be completed in any Roanoke City playground on Saturday, May 15th between 8 am and 8pm. Not only will this have you getting active, learning about your park, and expressing your creativity — you’ll also have a chance to get a little silly and maybe even win some prizes! Read on for how to participate:
1. GATHER YOUR TEAM
- Teams can be made up of families or friend-groups of any size. Please note: prizes may be designed for just one-or-two kids each.
- Please be sure one person on your team has access to a smart phone to be able to download and manage the Goose Chase app (more on this below).
- Ideally, each team will have at least one kid and one person who is 16+. Everyone on a team needs permission from their guardians to participate!
- Participation is just like playing in the park any other day: at your own risk!
2. DOWNLOAD THE GOOSE CHASE APP & FIND “ROANOKE DAY OF PLAY”
- Download for Android

3. PLAY!
- You will have 12 hours to complete as many (or all!) of the missions in the hunt. The game runs from 8am til 8pm on Saturday May 15th.
- Missions will require you to record a 30 second video or snap a photo using the app. This must be real-time! So no screen-shots or uploads possible. You can re-submit your entry as many times as you’d like, but whatever is there at 8pm will be your submission for the game!
- All missions are designed to be completed at a City of Roanoke playground.
- Get inspired and keep up with other teams across the City using the newsfeed on the app.
4. TRY TO WIN
- Be the first to complete all of the missions to win the grand prize! See below for details as prizes are added.
- Other prizes will be available for creativity, stewardship, kindness, and more!
- Finally, there will be a random drawing for anyone who plays at all — so even if you don’t win one of the first prizes, you could win this!
- Want an extra shot at winning the random drawing? Get a second entry in the drawing when you share a post of you and your team completing the scavenger hunt on social media (Facebook or Instagram) with the hashtag #playroanoke and be sure it’s public!
