The National League of Junior Cotillions is a widely-recognized organization teaching ballroom dance and etiquette to young people. The National League of Junior Cotillions® (NLJC) is a growing network of over 110+ directors who are strategically located across the county. Each year they continue to expand into new territories and welcome passionate and well-connected leaders to join the NLJC Community. Each NLJC Chapter is an independent franchise that is owned and operated by a local director with the guidance and support of the NLJC Corporate Staff.
The Roanoke Valley Chapter is a successful franchise available for sale. Students are registering daily and tuition on the books is already enough to cover the cost of the franchise rights. (That means there are enough students already signed up that once their tuition is collected, will put you back into the black before you even get started.) 10% royalties are payable to NLJC.
NLJC provides a two-day training that answers any questions about our organization while offering potential directors an inside look into Junior Cotillion etiquette instruction and NLJC dance steps. For any questions or to receive more information please contact the chapter development team via email at cotillions@nljc.com.
The cotillion classes are a mix of etiquette instruction and formal dance including the cha cha, fox trot, waltz, beach shag/swing, and line dances. Dances are taught using current music that is screened for content. The social and character education components of the program include rules of proper telephone courtesy, acknowledgments of gifts, introductions, receiving lines, participating in group settings, polite conversation, paying and receiving compliments, sports etiquette, first impressions, dress code for all occasions, manners in the home and in public places, table manners, formal place settings, styles of dining including American, Asian, and Continental, skills involved in being a guest, hostess or host, and many other areas of social behavior. Other topics covered are the ethics involved in the areas of having honor, dignity, respect, honesty, fairness, a caring attitude, accountability, and citizenship.
Classes are held one evening per month for 90 minutes each during the school year, culminating with a spring ball in March or April. Hunting Hills Country Club has been a gracious host for the Roanoke program.
The current director, Leila Tomasone, can help you get in touch with parents, schools, and media to get the word out. All teaching materials are provided. This is a successful business ready for a talented person to take the helm. If you have children in 5th through 8th grade, even better!
Candidates must be approved by NLJC, which involves submitting an application, meeting with corporate via Zoom, and finally attending a weekend training in Charlotte, NC.
