The Roanoke Valley’s largest holiday celebration, Delta Dental Dickens of a Christmas, returns to downtown the first three Fridays of December.
Dickens of a Christmas festivities begin at 5:30 p.m. and continue throughout the evening until 10:00 pm each night, including live stage and street performances by acts such as Southwest Virginia Ballet, Floyd Ward School of Dance, Voices of Appalachia and more! There will be the Cox Mobile Kids Zone with inflatables, games, and activities each night of Dickens and Santa's workshop inside the City Market Building. Festivities continue until 10:00pm each night, including the Cox Mobile Kids Zone, carriage rides, vendors, street performers, photos with Santa, and more!
Key Events and Details
December 6th
- Kick off the festivities on December 6th with the lighting of the City of Roanoke Christmas Tree.
- Carriage Rides will be available on the first and third nights of Dickens for $5 per person. Children 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Children 3 and under are free.
December 13th
- Don't miss the Christmas Parade, presented by Ridge View Bank, at 6:30pm on December 13th.
December 20th
- The Roanoke Valley SPCA brings back its beloved Pet Costume Contest on December 20th at 6:30 pm
- Enjoy the S'mores Station, presented by your Blue Ridge Honda Dealers
- NEW, the Flurry Frenzy snowball fight, presented by Galen College of Nursing.
Now through January 6th
- For the fifth time, Santa’s Scout Elves® will be landing in Downtown Roanoke! Come on a fun scavenger hunt and find the 16 Scout Elves® hiding in downtown stores. Find them all and be entered for a chance to win $1,000! The Elf on the Shelf® Adventure begins November 29th and concludes January 6th.
