Ivybrook Academy half-day preschool is coming to Roanoke as part of a network of more than 80 preschools! First opened in 2005 by husband and wife, Drew and Jennifer McWilliams (then first-grade-teacher), who recognized the absence of multidimensional learning opportunities for students. Jennifer's progressive view of education and proprietary curriculum for Ivybrook Academy is inspired by the Montessori approach, Reggio Emilia projects, and Multiple Intelligences where children can feel valued and grow off their own constructed knowledge. Through their Discovery Enrichment Program, Small Individualized Groups, and Collaborative Learning, children will feel their teachers are a part of their education and feel confident in expressing themselves as well as progressing at their own pace.
Owner and Director of Admissions, Sara Millehan, says she is very proud to open the Roanoke Campus with her husband, Chris Millehan, who grew up around entrepreneurs. Both originally from Roanoke and now parents to a 15 month old toddler, their passion for bettering the next generation of their community has only grown exponentially. In an era where education scores have plummeted to their lowest levels in decades, they understand the vital importance of providing every child with a strong educational foundation by fostering a love for learning.
Slated to open later this year near Hidden Valley Middle School in the Oak Grove area for ages 18 months to 5 years old, the Millehan’s goal is to help the “Star City” shine brighter than ever.
