Each summer North Cross School hosts a variety of summer programs for hundreds of children from across the Roanoke Valley and beyond.


The program, not just for North Cross students, is designed to provide students of all ages with safe activities that are interesting, challenging, and fun. There are a number of athletic-based camps, as well as enrichment programs to keep your curious child busy and engaged all summer long.

Day Camps

Ages 4-5

  • Awesome August, Jr. Rejoin our amazing Lower School faculty members for the week of summer camp. This camp is for students ages four and five. Enjoy crafts and age-appropriate games, stories, and field trips. A daily swim in the Carter Athletic Center pool (swimming vest required) is a must! Pack a lunch, a snack, and a drink daily. Stay all day, come early, come late, and leave when you need to. Please check the weekly schedule for exciting off-campus field trips. The hours are flexible.
  • Discover Camp, Jr. is a great mix of activities that challenge children's minds and bodies. It is specifically designed to meet the developmental needs of our youngest campers. Each day, campers will spend part of their time in a classroom doing art projects, fun science experiments, and reading stories. Mixed in with classroom time, campers will have a chance to enjoy fun snacks and cool off in the CAC swimming pool. Discovery Camp, Jr. campers must bring a flotation device to swim in the pool. Field trips to local attractions are twice a week, generally on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Participants will be grouped according to age and/or gender, and groups will spend the entire day with their counselor. It is a great summer camp. The structured activities will take place from 9:00 - 3:00. Four and five-year-olds only.
  • Staycation, Jr. is open to North Cross School families only. It is a great mix of activities that will challenge your children's minds and bodies. Each day, campers will spend part of their time in a classroom doing art projects and reading stories. Mixed in with classroom time, campers will have a chance to experience simple cooking or cool off in the CAC swimming pool. Participants will be grouped according to age and/or gender, and groups will spend the entire day with their counselor. Ages four and five years are eligible for participation.

Ages 6-10

  • June Jamboree is a great mix of activities that will challenge children's minds and bodies. Each day, campers will spend part of their time in a classroom doing art projects, fun science experiments, and reading stories for our littlest campers. Mixed in with classroom time, campers will have a chance to enjoy fun snacks and swim in the CAC pool. Field trips to local attractions happen twice a week, generally on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Participants will be grouped according to age and/or gender, and groups will spend the entire day with their counselor. It is a great way to start your summer! The structured activities will take place from 9:00 - 3:00.  Ages six years to fifth grade are eligible for participation.
  • Discovery Camp is a great mix of activities that will challenge children's minds and bodies. Each day, campers will spend part of their time in a classroom doing art projects, fun science experiments, and enjoying unique, themed weekly activities. Mixed in with classroom time, campers will have a chance to make and enjoy fun snacks and swimming. Field trips to local attractions are twice a week, generally on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Participants will be grouped according to age and/or gender, and groups will spend the entire day with their counselor. The structured activities will take place from 9:00 - 3:00. It is a great way to spend the day! Rising first to fifth grade only.
  • Staycation Camp is open to North Cross School families only. It is a great mix of activities that will challenge your children's minds and bodies. Each day, campers will spend part of their time in a classroom doing art projects, fun science experiments, and reading stories for our littlest campers. Morning activities and afternoon pool time is a perfect way to start the summer! Participants will be grouped according to age and/or gender, and groups will spend the entire day with their counselor. Win summer with all of your North Cross friends! Rising first to fifth grade children are eligible for participation.

Rising 3rd- 5th Graders

More Spanish Please
Calling all rising 3rd-5th graders who want to be Spanish superstars! Join Sra. Boush's action-packed Spanish camp the week of July 8th or 15th! Each day is a whirlwind adventure where you'll conquer new Spanish words and phrases in the morning, and then use your superpowers in epic role-playing conversations by afternoon.  Imagine ordering churros in a Spanish market or chatting with a new friend from Costa Rica - all in Spanish! It's like a summer vacation south of the border, without ever leaving town. Spots are limited, so sign up now and get ready for a ¡Fantástico! experience!

Steel Drum
Embark on a musical adventure to the Caribbean islands in our Steel Drum Camp led by Mr. Rudolph! Students in grades 3-5 will be introduced to the rich culture and vibrant music of the region, with a special focus on Trinidad, the birthplace of steel drums. Learn to play the steel pans and experience the joy of playing in a drum ensemble, mastering the music and performance techniques of a real steel drum band. It's a chance to learn, create, and have a blast!

Ages 7-13 

  • Girls All Sports
    Calling all future all-stars! Mrs. Slaughter, a favorite middle school teacher and former college athlete, is leading Girls All Sports this summer! This action-packed camp for ages 7-13 goes beyond just learning about a wide variety of sports; it's about building confidence, discovering a love for movement, and having a blast! Through teamwork and a variety of exciting activities, girls will develop athleticism, leadership skills, and a positive self-image. Spots fill up fast, so sign your daughter up for this week-long, half-day program starting July 8th! It's the perfect recipe for a summer filled with fun and a newfound love for an active lifestyle.


  • Summer Boost is designed to reinforce foundational reading, math, and work habits/skills required for rising Kindergarten and first-grade students after a summer away from the classroom. Teachers will use songs, movement, and manipulatives to re-establish classroom routines, such as those used with calendars, whole group instruction, and small group activities. Foundational reading skills covered include high-frequency word recognition, blending and segmenting word parts (phonemes), writing uppercase and lowercase letters, and building overall reading confidence. Math concepts covered will include a review of basic number sense skills (i.e., number order, numeral/number word recognition, skip counting), as well as the addition and subtraction processes using Singapore math strategies and methods. The goal is for our younger students to enjoy an engaging week and have an extra boost into the new school year!Ages 10-13
  • Thai Chi Camp provides a serene and mindful experience, cultivating balance and inner peace for older students. Tai Chi Why does the monkey steal the fruit? Come frolic like 5 different animals and find out! The ancient Chinese martial tai chi is slow-moving and gentle (non-contact). Playing with animal forms and open-handed choreography, we'll look silly, we'll laugh a lot, and we'll learn strategies for managing stress and increasing focus through continuous movement. Using our imaginations and games, we'll create stories to help us learn the movements, create balance, and connect our minds with our bodies. High school French teacher, Chris Brandon, will lead this program for rising 5th through 8th graders from 9:00 a.m. to noon the week of July 8th.
