Carilion’s Camp Treehouse is a free, one-day camp for children and teens (grades K-8) coping with the loss of a loved one. Through art, dance and music, campers explore healing self-expression alongside traditional camp activities.
At Camp Treehouse, children connect with peers who understand their grief, learn healthy ways to express their emotions, and discover coping strategies through creative and recreational activities. The camp experience includes:
- Connection: Meeting other children who have also experienced the loss of a loved one
- Understanding: Normalizing feelings and learning ways to cherish memories
- Expression: Engaging in healing activities such as art, dance, music, drumming and a ropes course
While children participate in camp activities, caregivers will attend guided discussions and an art activity focused on self-care and supporting their child through grief.
Dress for outdoor adventure. Lunch and snacks provided. The camp will be held in Bedford, VA on Sat., May 10 from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The location will be confirmed during required pre-registration. As part of Carilion’s Center for Grief and Healing, Camp Treehouse is guided by licensed counselors. To register, call 540-527-4869. Learn more at CarilionClinic.org/camp-treehouse.
