You are invited to the 69th Annual Vinton Dogwood Festival taking place April 26 and 27. The two-day festival features over 125 craft vendors and additional 25 businesses and non-profit vendors, three festival entertainment stages, street entertainment, antique car show, free Kids’ Zone, free Family Activity area, “Dogwood Stroll – Walking Parade”, crowning of Vinton Dogwood Festival Queen and presentation of the Dogwood Court.
The Frequency Band will present a concert of 70’s, 80’s and 90’s music on Friday evening at the Vinton Farmers’ Market Stage, from 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm. The gate, beverage garden and food will open at 6 pm. Admission is $5.00. Bring seating and ID. Feel free to dress in your favorite decades clothing and dance and listen to the music.
Saturday, April 27th, is a fun day of activities for all ages. Events include a large craft show, business showcase, antique car show, live entertainment on three stages including Mason Creek, Rare Form Duo, Jerry Wimmer and Terry Hannabass, William Byrd High School Jazz Band and 8th grade William Byrd Middle School musicians, Karlee Raye, and Tai Chi Demo. Street entertainers include headliner, “Old Bay Circus Company” performing aerial work, tightrope walking, juggling and comedy. Another juggler and a magician will be roaming through the crowd during the day.
The free Kids' Zone located at the Vinton Farmers’ Market will feature large inflatables, a petting zoo, numerous crafts, STEM activities, hands-on activities, games, and prizes. Also check out “Branching Out” at the Vinton Library. Activities include yard games, slime station for youth, chalk art and obstacle course, giant yard games, prize wheel, selfie station and RCACP Adoption Fair.
The newly designed “Dogwood Stroll – Walking Parade” will step off at 2:00 pm following a route in downtown Vinton following Pollard St., Cleveland Ave., Maple St., Lee Ave. All ages will enjoy the William Byrd High School Band, Scottish pipes, Island Trio Band, Miss Kitty’s Cosmonaut Stilt Walkers, walking and novelty units, costumed characters, clowns, and much more during the parade. The parade will include a new interactive feature for anyone wanting to join the parade. Drop by the “Creative Station” to create a small “Shoebox float, create a “Kind Word Sign,” pick up a free kazoo to play in the parade, or a balloon animal to carry in the parade.
In keeping with tradition, the crowning of the Vinton Dogwood Festival Queen will take place on the Vinton Municipal Building stage at noon. One deserving William Byrd High School student will receive a scholarship, coveted crown, and the honor of riding along with her court in the 69th Annual Dogwood Parade.
The afternoon will conclude with a concert by “Area 51” and other entertainment at the “Creek Bank Stage” behind Twin Creeks Brewing Company beginning at 4 p.m.
