FIND A KREWE!

Making art can bring purpose and healing when our lives are stressful. Making art can bring people together, build community, and help communities have common purpose with their neighbors. We want to help the citizens of our city start making community art by making groups that we call krewes. A Krewe is a social group that wants to do something for others, like a barn raising or in this case a float building. You don’t have to be an artist or creative to be in a Krewe, but you should like rolling up your sleeves!

KEEP UP WITH NEIGHBORHOOD ACTIVATIONS!

This year, we have a team of Roanoke Artists in Residence dedicated to activating five of the city’s focus neighborhoods for the parade. We will be highlighting the ongoing work of these communities and artists, and look forward to seeing what projects will emerge! These Neighborhood Artists and Teaching Artists will be helping Roanoke communities work together to develop parade art and connect neighborhoods through the Daisy Parade and beyond! Our newsletter will share more information about neighborhood events and activations.

UNESCO World Art Day

Each year, on 15 April, World Art Day celebrations help reinforce the links between artistic creations and society, encourage greater awareness of the diversity of artistic expressions and highlight the contribution of artists to sustainable development. It is also an occasion to shine a light on arts education in schools, as culture can pave the way for inclusive and equitable education. This World Art Day is a timely reminder that art can unite and connect us even in the most difficult of circumstances. Indeed, the power of art to bring people together, to inspire, heal and share, has become increasingly clear during recent conflicts and crises including COVID-19.
