Kids want to cool off, but not sure where to go in Roanoke? Here is a list of places to splash and public pools in the Roanoke area to take kids on these hot summer days.

Memorial Day weekend kicks off summer fun and swimming season for most families in Roanoke, VA. Are you looking for public pools and swimming beaches in the Roanoke, VA area?  If you are looking for a  place to swim in Roanoke, and aren't ready to invest in a pool membership, we have you covered in this guide!

We advise always checking with the venue when possible before heading out as hours and availability can change due to any number of factors, ranging from weather to staffing issues.








Splash Valley

Splash Valley features two 34-foot high slides, a current river, children's spray ground and more!  Splash Valley Water Park is located directly adjacent to Roanoke County's Green Ridge Recreation Center, but requires a separate admission.

Green Ridge Rec Center Indoor Pool

Green Ridge Rec Center Indoor Pool includes a giant slide, sprayground, current river, and lap lanes. Access to the pool is included in gym membership, but day passes are available. The pool is also available for parties, events, and groups. More Info.

Washington Park Pool

The Washington Park swimming pool ranges from three to five feet deep and has a 12-foot diving well. Diving boards and dual water slides are available for pool users who know how to swim. Chairs are available.

Ages 16+: $3

Ages 5-15: $2

Ages 4 and under: Free

Fallon Park Pool

The Fallon Park public pool area also includes a concession stand and a picnic shelter.  Deck chairs and chaise lounges are available for relaxing poolside.

Ages 4 and under: Free

Lancerlot Sports Complex 

Lancerlot is a membership based fitness facility with an outdoor pool that opens Memorial Day weekend.  

Rates:

Non-members can purchase a day pass for $12.

Botetourt Country Club

Botetourt Country Club offers day passes to their outdoor seasonal pool with staffed lifeguards. Kiddie pool and limited food and beverage service.

Frog Pond Public Swimming Pool

The Frog Pond is in Blacksburg, VA, only 45 minutes from Roanoke on I-81 S.  The Frog Pond features a zero-depth entry and maximum of 8 feet depth, and 4 big slides.  The baby pool is equipped with a water-spouting whale and a bubbler inside of a fenced in area. There are four slides in the big pool. Concessions are available.

Smith Mountain Lake Community Park Beach

Smith Mountain Lake Community Beach is part of the 37-acre Smith Mountain Lake Community Park. It is a family oriented facility providing swimming, paddling, fishing, a playground, trails, and picnic shelters. Bring your own equipment.

Rates: $3 each ages 3+, 3 and under are free

Address: 1482 Parkway Ave, Moneta, VA. Smith Mountain Lake Community Park is located at the end of Park Place Boulevard. By land take 122 toward Westlake, at Scruggs Road take a right and then follow the park signs to the park.  More Info.


Smith Mountain Lake State Park 

Only 40 minutes from Roanoke, Smith Mountain Lake State Park beach features 500 feet of shoreline, concession stands, and access to the parks trails, interpretive hikes, and nature activities (some fees may apply for supplies).  Boat rentals (canoes, kayaks, hydrobikes, paddleboats, pontoon boats, ski boats and jet skis) are available at the park from Memorial Day through Labor Day.  Camping is also available.

Rates: $7 parking fee per car + Swimming Fees

Ages 3-12 Weekday: $3 Weekend $4, 12+ Weekday, $4, Weekend, $5

Under 3: Free

Fairystone State Park

Less than an hour from Roanoke, Fairystone State Park Beach is part of the 168 acre Fairystone Lake.  The lake is perfect for paddling and boat rentals are available. Admission to the park includes access to the interpretive hikes, playgrounds, and picnicking.  The hike for fairy stones is a must! More Info.

Claytor Lake State Park

Claytor Lake State Park is only 40 minutes from Roanoke in the New River Valley. The beach featurs a snack stand, gift shop, and boat (kayaks, paddleboards) rentals are available through a 3rd party.  Entry fee to the park provides access to the park's trails, interpretive hikes, and nature activities (some fees may apply for supplies).  Camping is also available. Douthat State Park

Douthat State Park Beach , an hour from Roanoke on I-81 N, area is open, May through October, for unguarded swimming within the roped area; the diving dock is off-limits. Enjoy beautiful mountain views, a swimming beach with snack bar, fishing, boat rentals, more than 40 miles of hiking and  biking trails, playgrounds, tent and RV camping, and rental cabins. For summer 2022, the swimming beach is unguarded, so swimming fees are waived.  More Info.

Rate: No swimming fee in 2022. Parking fee $7.
